Your one-rep max (1RM) is the most you can lift for a single rep of an exercise. Rather than testing it directly, which is risky, this estimates it from a heavier set using the Epley formula. Coaches use 1RM to set training percentages — for example, working sets at 70 to 85 percent. Estimates are most accurate at lower rep counts.

Frequently asked questions
How accurate is an estimated 1RM?
Very good for sets of about 2 to 6 reps. Above 10 reps, fatigue and technique vary more, so the estimate drifts. Use it as a training guide, not a competition figure.
Should I test my true 1RM?
Only when well trained, warmed up and ideally with a spotter. Estimating from a submaximal set is safer for most lifters.
